Here is a list of Frequently
Asked Questions about Baby Preview's service. If you
have any further questions, please do not hesitate to
contact
us.
Where
can I find Baby Preview? Baby Preview operates
in specially designated rooms in the Nuffield Hospital
Derby, situated in Littleover in Derby, just off the
A38. MAP.
Can I bring family and friends
with me? Yes, we are able to accommodate
up to five members of your family and friends.
Am I guaranteed to get good pictures? All
pictures are influenced by the position of your baby,
the amount of fluid surrounding baby, and the amount
of tissue between the baby and the probe. We make every
effort to obtain the best possible pictures, but cannot
promise that they will meet everyone's expectations.
With a Baby Preview scan between 24 and 32 weeks it
is not possible to get the whole of Baby onto one picture,
but this is the best time to capture the detail of Baby's
face, hands & feet and other features. If it is
not possible to get clear 3D/4D images or views of baby's
face, an alternative appointment will be offered at
a time convenient to you.
Can I find out the sex of my baby? This is
optional and only possible if the baby is in a good
position. We cannot guarantee your baby's sex, nor may
it be 100% possible to avoid showing you!
What if I am expecting twins? Unfortunately,
due to the increased difficulty in obtaining views, we
are unable to offer scans for twin pregnancies
Do I need a full bladder? It is not necessary
to have a full bladder.
Is Ultrasound scanning safe? Since its introduction
30 years ago, there has been no evidence to suggest
that ultrasound scanning presents any risk to mother
or baby. This view is constantly monitored on an ongoing
basis by the British Medical Ultrasound Society.
Do I need a referral from my Doctor? No.
Baby Preview operates on a self referral basis.
Does my Baby Preview scan replace my NHS scan?
No, the Baby Preview scan is a non diagnostic scan with
the sole purpose of allowing you to bond with your baby.
What if
a possible problem is identified on the scan?
On the rare occasion that a possible problem is identified
on the scan, the Sonographer will seek your permission
to inform your usual ante natal care provider. Please
note this may take up to 48 hours with a weekend appointment.
How long until I get my images? Your images
will be recorded and given to you during your scan appointment.
In case of any technical difficulties, they will be
forwarded to you as soon as is possible.
Do I need to bring anything with me? Please
bring your hand held maternity records, as these have
details of your antenatal care provider.
What is the payment method for my scan? You
will be invoiced by the Nuffield Hospital following
confirmation of your appointment time, with the payment to be made at the time of your scan.
What If I am running late for my appointment?
Please try to arrive 10 minutes before your appointment
time in order to be booked in. If you are running late,
please ring the Nuffield Hospital on 01332 540100 to
let us know.
When can I have a Baby Preview scan? Baby
Preview offer scans between 24 and 32 weeks gestation.
The best images are usually obtained at around 24 to
29 weeks.
